Coastal Styling Guide

To help you feel confident and beautifully prepared for your session, I've curated a coastal styling guide with timeless pieces and trusted places to shop. Thoughtful wardrobe choices elevate your images and ensure they feel effortless, natural, and beautifully cohesive.
- When choosing outfits, I recommend selecting soft, neutral, earth tones that complement the surrounding natural colors of the coastline. Shades such as ivory, cream, sand, blush, soft blues, sage, taupe, and muted pastels photograph beautifully against the beach landscape.
- Rather than having everyone match, aim for coordinating tones within the same color palette. This creates a more natural, elevated look in your images while still feeling cohesive.
- I also suggest avoiding bold patterns, bright colors, and large logos, as these can distract from the connection and emotion in your photos. Subtle textures (gauze, linen) and solid tones tend to photograph most beautifully.
- When your wardrobe blends effortlessly with the environment, the focus stays exactly where it belongs -- on your connection and the moments we capture!
I always recommend starting with mom's dress or outfit when beginning to plan your wardrobe for your session. Long, flowy dresses photograph beautifully in coastal light and often set the tone for the entire color palette! From there, the rest of the family can coordinate with colors pulled from that palette for a look that feels natural and cohesive.
- Barefoot is always perfect for a beach session
- minimal accessories photograph best
- comfort is key -- if you feel good, it shows in your photos
